As part of the Extrartis Residency in Sorrento, Italy, I created Enrico Ibsen during my residency in August 2026. The work was presented as part of Ritorna, included in the programme of the 21st Day of Contemporary Art, promoted by AMACI: the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums.
Henrik Ibsen had a significant connection to Sorrento. He stayed there in 1867, where he worked on Peer Gynt, and returned in 1881, when he worked on Ghosts.
During the residency, I read Ibsen’s plays while developing the painting. The title Enrico Ibsen refers to the Italian form of his name. The words “Enrico Ibsen whispers of stories yet to be told” are embroidered into the painting.
